Match Report - 25 Apr 2015, Harris Academy FP Hockey Club 1st Team Outdoor beat Strathclyde University
Harris got off to a great start with four goals in the first eleven minutes of the match. The first came after three minutes when Marc Callaghan drove into the D and took a return pass from Greg Whittet before playing the ball to the far post for Neil Martin to open the scoring. A minute later Albert Rowling won a short corner and scored with a drag flick. In the 6th minute Albert collected a pass on the left from Neil and drove to the top of the D before firing in his second. In the 11th minute Albert completed his hat-trick from a short corner won by Ethan Drew.
Strathclyde started to get more of the ball after this. In the 18th minute Duncan saved well but when Euan Simpson kicked the ball towards goal from the save, Iain Mitchell did well to make a goal line clearance. In the 22nd minute Greg played a good overhead ball to Ami Bhachu who took the ball into the D and shot wide. A minute later a long through ball from his own half by Ethan was just missed by Neil as he tried to deflect into the goal. In the 30th minute Albert dispossessed a Strathclyde defender, drove into the D and fired wide. With four minutes to go until half-time Strathclyde broke through the middle and their captain hit the ball into the corner of the goal past Duncan. A short corner for Strathclyde two minutes later was converted to make it 4-2 at half-time.
Strathclyde were back in the gmae and forced three short corners in the first ten minutes of the second half with Duncan also saving well from open play during this period. Harris came close to extending their lead in the 48th minute. An overhead ball from Euan Simpson found Neil and his cross led to a short corner. The corner was blocked and went to Gavin Martin whose first time shot went narrowly past. Almost immediately Strathclyde scored to make it 4-3 and in the 54th minute they missed from a short corner. In the 57th minute Harris scored a much needed fifth goal with the goal of the match. Albert collected the ball from Greg and drove down the left before releasing a reverse hit shot which went into the corner of the goal giving the home keeper no chance. Greg cam close to extending the Harris lead in the 63rd minute but his shot was well saved. With four minutes to go Albert scored his fifth goal and the final one of the game.
