Harris Academy F.P. Hockey Club is one of the largest and most established hockey clubs in Dundee. We currently field four outdoor adult teams and five indoor teams ensuring we are represented at every level of Scottish hockey, from National League to the local development league.

Harris Academy F.P. Hockey Club is closely involved with youth hockey, fielding both U/16 and U/18 teams and providing coaching at both primary and secondary school levels. Our club allows young players to develop their skills in a friendly and encouraging environment at a pace which is suited to them and also offers chances to play at the top levels of Scottish hockey.

Clydesdale led 1-0 at half-time from a 21st minute short corner goal. Three goals in the first eight minutes of the second half made the game safe for Clydesdale. Harris contiued to compete well against their first division opponents but lost a further two goals before the end of the game.

After a good 6-1 win last week against Grove Menzieshill III Harris 2s found Wanderers 3s tougher opposition and went down 4-1 with Pete Black getting the Harris goal.

Harris Under 18s win Indoor Gold

Harris were gold medal winners in the finals of the Active Schools indoor competition at DISC. A 3-0 win in the semi-final against Grove put them into the final against Baldragon which they won 5-1. Harris team:- Duncan McNicoll, Finlay Wright, Jonnie McLeish, Sam Owen-Hughes, Jack Dyer, Anthony Mudie, Dylan Ackerley, Callum Ellis, Zoe Hunter and Jessica Trickett.

Harris 7 - 2 Aberdeen Univ

Harris opened the scoring in the 13th minute after a 1-2 involving Ethan Drew and Ferg WIlson got the ball to Albert Rowling who drove right before firing a powerful shot past the keeper. Aberdeen University equalised in the 18th minute but Harris took a half-time lead when Neil Martin netted  a rebound from a Ferg Wilson shot in the 34th minute. Harris extended their lead a minute into the second half when Albert Rowling won the ball from a defender and sent a reverse chip into the net. Harris pressed for a fourth goal and missed short corners but it was the students who got back into the game with a shot that deflected off a Harris defender past Duncan in goal. A minute later Neil Martin dispossessed a defender, passed to Albert and his cross was netted by Ferg Wilson.  Harris went 5-2 ahead in the 20th minute when a Gavin Martin shot was deflected over the keeper. A minute later Ami Bhachu and Neil combined to get the ball to Albert Rowling and he completed his hat-trick. With four minutes left Neil pressed a University defender and Greg Whittet following up won the ball and hit a powerful shot into the corner of the net. (match report)


Harris 3 - 0 Strathclyde Univ

In this top of the table clash Strathclyde started the game a point of Harris but with a game more played. It was Harris who took the lead in the 19th minute when a Gavin Martin shot was hit into the net by Ferg Wilson. Harris increased their lead 18 minutes into the second half when Greg Whittet played a 1-2 with Albert Rowling before sending the ball into the roof of the net. With time running out Harris sealed victory when Ferg Wilson provided the assist for Sam Owen-Hughes to put Harris three ahead. (match report)

The first semi-final game between Harris A and Harris B resulted in a 3-0 win for the A team while in the other semi Grove beat Baldragon to reach the final. In the final Harris A defeated Grove 3-0 with goals from Lucas Mahoney(2) and Gregor Trickett.

The Harris B team collected bronze medals by beating Baldragon 2-1 in the 3rd/4th play-off with Callum Bolton and Caitlin Burns getting the Harris goals.

Harris IV 7 - 1 Grove Menzieshill VI

Thursday 12th February 2015 at Douglas Sports Centre
Harris 4s moved to the top of the league with this win over Menzieshill VIs. Two goals each from Sam Owen-Hughes, Anthony Mudie and Finlay Wriight and a goal from Ben Graham gave Harris a comfortable win in their last league game. The league will be decided next week when Perthshire II play their last game knowing that a win will see them overtake Harris. (match report)

Inter-District Under 18 Indoor Tournament
Sunday 8th February at Bells Sports Centre

Harris had plenty of interest in this tournament with Finlay Wright and Sam Owen-Hughes both selected in the twelve to represent Midlands under 18s. Draws in the first two games against East 3-3 and West 4-4 meant that the East v West result and goal difference would determine whether Midlands could win the competition. With West narrowly defeating East 4-3 , Midlands could only play for 2nd place in their final game against North which they won 9-1. Finlay and Sam were amongst the goalscorers for Midlands with Finlay getting one in the game against West and two against North while Sam got on the scoresheet against North as well.

Harris 8 - 4  Kelburne II 


                        

After the win against Inverleith II Harris still had to win against  Kelburne II to retain their place in Division 2. Kelburne took the lead in the first minute but two short corner goals from Albert Rowling in the 3rd and 6th minutes put Harris ahead and they built on this in the first half. Greg Whittet put Harris ahead 3-1 and another short corner from Albert Rowling and a Marc Callaghan goal seemed to have Harris in control at half-time with a 5-1 scoreline. However Kelburne fought back in the second half and by the 29th minute the scoreline was 5-4 to Harris. For the next seven minutes there were no further goals but Harris got the vital next goal in the 36th minute when Marc Callaghan grabbed his second of the game. Kelburne took off their keeper to press Harris but it was Harris who missed a couple of good chances before an Albert Rowling short corner in the 38th minute sealed the game for Harris. Despite being a player short Harris added to their tally in the last minute with a goal from Gavin Martin. (match report)


Harris 9 -2 Inverleith II
Harris got off to the best possible start in their bid to stay in Division 2 with a 9-2 win against Inverleith II who had finished fifth out of eight teams after the original set of league ranking games while Harris had finished sixth. A first half hat-trick from Albert Rowling put Harris three ahead at half-time. The first came from open play, the second from a corner and the third from a penalty flick.


 Harris got the vital next goal at the start of the second half through another Albert Rowling short corner in the 22nd minute. Gavin Martin scored the fifth for Harris in the 24th minute and another Albert Rowling corner in the 27th minute extended the lead to six. Inverleith pulled back a goal but almost immediately Gavin Martin made it 7-1 to Harris. Sam Owen-Hughes got the eighth goal for Harris in the 34th minute. Inverleith got their second goal in the 38th minute and a penalty flick converted by Albert Rowling completed the scoring. (match report)




Harris IV 2 - 2 Monarchs III

Harris 4s kept up their good record this season in Division 3 with a 2-2 draw against Monarchs 3s. Goals from Sam Owen-Hughes and Anthony Mudie put Harris two ahead midway through the game but Monarchs fought back to gain a share of the points. Harris now have one game left to play and are still in with a chance of winning the league. (match report)

Harris 6 - 7 Stepps

Saturday 24th January 2015 at Dundee University Sports Hall
After narrowly failing to get into the top four play-offs, Harris had to play Stepps who had won none of their league or group games. Harris went ahead from an Albert Rowling short corner before Stepps equalised from a penalty flick and then went ahead from open play. Albert equalised from the penalty spot  before Stepps restored their one goal lead before half time. Harris were in trouble when they went 5-2 behind seven minutes into the second half. A great fightback  produced three goals from Albert, two from short corners and one from open play via an assist from Marc Callaghan. After getting back on level terms they immediately lost two more goals and with time running out it was Albert again who scored from a short corner to make it 7-6. Harris were awarded an overtime short corner but the Stepps defender managed to get to the top of the D quickly to block the shot.  Harris now go into a play-off against Inverleith 2s in two weeks time at Bell's Coaching Hall. Harris opened the scoring through Albert Rowling when he sent a first time angled shot high into the net from a Neil Martin pass down the left board. Uddingston equalised from a short corner and then went 3-1 ahead before Albert Rowling scored for Harris three minutes before half time. Both teams had short corners but failed to score and with time running out Harris converted their fourth corner of the match with Albert completing his hat-trick (match report)



Harris 4 - 12 Inverleith

Thursday 22nd January 2015 at Douglas Sports Centre
Inverleith went three ahead after five minutes before Ethan Drew pulled back a goal for Harris. After Inverleith increased their lead again Ethan grabbed his second from a long through ball by Greg Whittet.  Inverleith were three ahead again two minutes later but Harris quickly responded when Ethan Drew completed his hat-trick from a Greg assist . In the last ten minutes of the game Inverleith took control and extended their lead to 12-3 before Harris scored a minute from time when Gavin Martin scored form an Ethan assist. Saturday 17th January 2015 at Dundee University Sports Hall
Carnegie were two ahead after only three minutes. Jimi Simpson got Harris back into the game with a 12th minute goal and two goals in the last three minutes of the first half from Gavin Martin and Greg Whittet gave Harris a 3-2 half time lead. Carnegie were back on level terms during the first minute of the second half and four minutes later they went ahead. Ethan Drew equalised for Harris with eight minutes to go and a Gavin Martin goal five minutes from time seem to have secured a Harris win. However, Carnegie scored with 15 seconds to go to get a share of the points. (match report)

Falkirk opened the scoring in the 13th minute but Marc Callaghan equalised for Harris a minute later. Harris started the second half with only four players after a yellow card and Iain Mitchell was the hero during this period with a penalty save while playing kicking back. After getting back to a full team Harris went ahead when Marc Callaghan scored his second. Falkirk equalised from a short corner but Sam Owen-Hughes put Harris ahead again midway through the second half . Ally Blair saved a penalty and shortly after Greg Whitett put Harris 4-2 ahead. With two minutes to go Falkirk cut the Harris lead to one and were awarded a penalty flick in the last minute of the game but sent the ball wide of the goal.(match report)

Albert Rowling opened the scoring for Harris from a short corner but Stepps equalised almost immediately. Two goals in two minutes from Neil Martin gave Harris a two goal lead and a Greg Whittet short corner put Harris ahead 4-1. Four goals in four minutes, two for each team, made the half time score 6-3 to Harris, with both Harris goals coming from Albert Rowling short corners.Three minutes into the second half Stepps were back to 6-5 and a minute later they were awarded a penalty flick. Harris were also reduced to 4 players when a yellow card was awarded at the same time.Sam Edwards made a vital penalty save and while a player short Harris went two ahead through a Gav Martin goal. Shortly after it was 8-5 when Albert Rowling scored his fourth short corner of the game before a Stepps corner made it 8-6. Three minutes from time Harris sealed victory when a good passing move ended with Gav Martin supplying the finish.(match report)

Harris opened the scoring through Albert Rowling. Menzieshill hit back to go 3-1 ahead after 8 minutes before goals from Euan Simpson, Greg Whittet and Albert Rowling put Harris 4-3 ahead half way through the match. Five goals in seven minutes from GM then gave them a four goal lead. Harris failed to take their own chances during this period and their only other goal came two minutes from time when Albert Rowling completed his hat-trick.

Anthony Mudie opened the scoring for Harris in the 2nd minute. After nine minutes GM were ahead 2-1. Harris equalised through Anthony Mudie before GM went 3-2 ahead. Harris drew level through Finlay Wright but GM regained the lead a minute later .Harris equalised from a Finlay Wright short corner and Sam Owen- Hughes put Harris ahead from another short corner. Harris went behind in the first minute. Finlay Wright scored to get Harris back on level terms. Anthony Mudie beat Scott Chisholm in the Wanderers goal to put Harris ahead and then grabbed another to give Harris a 3-1 lead. However,three goals in seven minutes put Wanderers ahead 4-3 and despite forcing four short corners after this Harris couldn't get an equaliser .

Inverleith replied with a short corner goal five minutes from the end of the first half. Harris then failed to convert from four short corners in the first ten minutes of the second half and  Inverleith scored three goals from open play in the same period to take the lead. Just as in their first game of the day Harris started well and were three ahead after seven minutes with Albert Rowling (2) and Gavin Martin getting the goals. GM with a full pool of 12 players then settled and got back on level terms by half-time. Menzieshill dominated the first fifteen minutes of the second half, taking a 9-3 lead . Harris pulled back briefly to 9-5 with goals from Euan SImpson and Gavin Martin before GM scored two more before the end of the game. (match report)

Gordonians first team have withdrawn from the national indoor league this season and Harris 2s found it difficult  at RGU in their first game of the day. The Harris goals came from Callum Hughes, Jonny McLeish and Niall Mackay (right).

In an even first half Harris turned turned round a goal down after a short corner goal in the last minute gave Uddingston a 3-2 lead at half-time. First half scorers for Harris were Albert Rowling and Iain Mitchell. Three quick goals in the first four minutes of the second half left Uddingston 5-3 ahead with Albert Rowling scoring for Harris from  a penalty flick. There were no goals for the next ten minutes but Uddingston finished strongly with three goals in the last five minutes as Harris pressed to get back into the game. (match report)

Saturday 13th December at Forthbank
Neither team was more than a goal ahead throughout this closely contested game. Watsonians  scored from a short corner before goals from Gavin Martin and Iain Mitchell from a short corner put Harris ahead. Watsonians drew level to make it 2-2 at half-time. The teams exchanged goals at the start of the second half with Albert Rowling getting the Harris goal. After Watsonians went ahead Albert Rowling equalised from a penalty flick.  With six minutes left both teams scored with Marc Callaghan getting the Harris goal. Watsonians won the game with a short corner goal four minutes from the end. (match report)

Saturday 13th December at Forthbank
It was the thirteenth minute of the first half before Falkirk took the lead and this led to six goals being scored in a four minute period of play. Falkirk led 4-2 at half-time with Albert Rowling getting both Harris goals. Albert completed his hat-trick at the start of the second half before Falkirk extended their lead to two from a short corner. Gavin Martin scored for Harris to make it 5-4 four minutes into the second half. Shortly after this Falkirk received a yellow card and this was followed by a green card. While Falkirk were down to three players Harris equalised through Gavin Martin. Just after play restarted following the goal Falkirk received another yellow card and with only two players on the pitch the game was abandoned. (match report)

Wanderers were six ahead after nine minutes. Harris continued to work hard throughout the game and Kevin Ancell scored a consolation goal for Harris after Sam Owen-Hughes dispossessed a Wanderers defender.

Harris never gave up and defended well throughout this game against the Scottish indoor champions. Harris managed to create some chances on the counter attack but failed to take any of these.

Albert Rowling opened the scoring for Harris in the 9th minute and Pete Black made it two after 18th minutes to give Harris a two goal lead at half time. Two goals early in the second half from Ferg Wilson and Albert Rowling gave Harris a four goal lead. Greg Whittet got a fifth for Harris 14 minutes into the second half and then a good passing movement around the D ended with Gavin Martin putting Harris six ahead. Greg Whittet put Harris two ahead after 14 minutes when he deflected an Albert cross high into the net. Harris then forced three short corners in quick succession and the third led to a penalty flick when Gavin Martin's shot was blocked by a defender on the line. Euan Simpson converted to give Harris a three goal lead at half time. Perthshire pressed Harris at the start of the second half but Harris looked dangerous on the counter attack. From their third short corner of the game Perthshire pulled back a goal with 15 minutes left to play. Highland took and early lead but Greg Whittet equalised with an overhead shot from a Neil Martin cross which was deflected by a Highland defender. Highland regained
the lead  but Harris were quickly level when Greg Whittet beat two defenders and slipped the ball past the Highland keeper. Highland went ahead again from a short corner but three minutes later Albert Rowling equalised from a Harris short corner. 



Harris went into lead early in the second half when Euan Simpson's cross into the D was met by Neil Martin who glanced it high into the net. Highland were back on level terms minutes later but almost immediately Pete Black played a reverse pass for Greg Whittet to complete his hat-trick and put Harris ahead 5-4. Harris had chances to extend their lead after this but sealed victory with a few minutes to go from an Albert Rowling short corner.  (match report)

Strathclyde went ahead from a short corner but Albert Rowling equalised for Harris from another short corner before half time. Harris took an early second half lead ,from an Albert Rowling short corner, but almost immediately Strathclyde hit back and equalised from another short corner. A goal from open play put the home team ahead midway through the second half but with eight minutes to go Steven Moir picked up a Craig Edward cross and deflected in the equaliser. Harris had a great chance to go ahead when Sam Owen-Hughes had his shot blocked on the goal line by a defender's foot but the Strathclyde keeper saved well from Albert's penalty flick. With only two minutes left Albert's drag flick from a short corner hit the post but  Ferg Wilson was on hand to collect the rebound and send his shot into the corner of the goal for the winner. Harris missed five early short corners and were made to pay when Perthshire opened the scoring from their first short corner after 20 minutes.Greg Whittet equalised for Harris in the 29th minute but Perthshire regained the lead in the last minute of the first half. Two goals in the first two minutes of the second half gave Perthshire a 4-1 lead. Harris fought back with goals from Greg Whittet and Neil Martin. Another three short corners for Harris were missed just after this as they tried to force an equaliser. (match report)

Harris did most of the attacking in the first half but found former keeper, and current Harris goalkeeper coach, Graeme Field in great form. Despite creating a string of chances from open play and corners it was two minutes before half time before Harris took the lead. Albert Rowling played a quick ball to Greg Whittet and he deflected the ball into the corner of the net. Harris started on the attack again in the second half but couldn't increase their lead. In a counter attack Monarchs won a short corner and Chris Finnan's shot hit the post. Harris worked to increase their lead but continued to be denied by Fieldy in the Monarchs goal including a great save from a volleyed shot from Gav Martin. (match report)

However, the University team fought back to score before Albert Rowling converted another short corner to make it 5-1 to Harris at half -time. A reverse  stick shot high into the roof of the net from Finlay Wright five minutes into the second half restored a two goal lead for Harris and another goal from Finlay Wright midway through the second half made it 4-1.

There were no league games at the weekend due to the Under 18 and Under 16 inter-district tournaments taking place at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. Harris were represented at under 18 level by FInlay Wright who played in all four games for Midlands.

The Midlands team recorded wins over North 4-1 and Highland 4-0. Defeats from winners West 5-0 and by East 5-3  gave Midlands 3rd place overall in the tournament.

Harris led 1-0 at half -time after Greg Whittet deflected a Neil Martin cross past the Cala keeper. Harris started strongly in the second half with Finlay Wright playing the ball through to Neil and his reverse pass found Greg Whittet who grabbed his second goal. A quick Albert Rowling free hit and was cut back by Neil for Ferg Wilson to make it three and Marc Callaghan and Greg Whittet set up the fourth for Albert Rowling. Harris had seven under 14 players playing in their first senior game in this fixture at DISC. After going a goal behind in four minutes the team settled well and there was no further scoring in the first half. GM5 scored two minutes into the second half and sealed victory when they scored a third goal towards the end of the match. Harris scored a late consolation goal when Finlay Wright hit a reverse stick shot into the corner of the net.

In a high scoring game at DISC Perthshire opened the scoring after ten minutes. After Albert Rowling levelled from a short corner Perthshire scored twice before half-time to take a two goal lead.
Harris started well in the second half and after three minutes were level. First of all Neil Martin scored when he picked up a rebound from a Marc Callaghan shot and then a reverse pass from Neil found Ferg Wilson who netted the equaliser. Ten minutes later Harris were ahead from another Albert short corner before Perthshire equalised from a penalty flick. Ferg put Harris ahead again 5-4 when he picked up a cross inside the D and after his first shot was saved he scored from the rebound. With time running out Perthshire made it 5-5 folllowing  a rebound from a short corner. There was still time for one last chance when Pete Black was sent through but his shot was saved by the Perthshire keeper. (match report)

Neither team really tested  the keepers early on in the game. Highland scored two goals from short corners late in the first half. Harris started well in the second half  and from their second short corner of the half Euan Simpson scored to make it 2-1. After a Harris goal was disallowed Highland scored from a counter-attack to regain their two goal lead. Harris pressed and missed a couple of short corners before they got back into the game five minutes from time. A Neil Martin shot was blocked by a defender on the line and Euan Simpson converted the penalty flick. Harris equalised in the last minute when Pete Black scored from a short corner. Marc Callaghan put Harris ahead after two minutes. After failing to extend their lead from three short corners, Harris scored their second through Pete Black after some good build up play from the Harris midfield. Greg Whittet  scored to make it 3-0 for Harris at half-time.
Monarchs fought back scoring an early second half goal and then another half way through the second period before goals from Pete Black and Jack Dyer put Harris three ahead again. Monarchs scored from a short corner to make it 5-3 but a second goal for Greg following a solo run and shot made the final score 6-3 to Harris (match report)

The second team travelled to Dunfermline for the annual Kevin Walker Community Shield tournament hosted by Dunfermline City. A Dylan Ackerley goal gave Harris a 1-0 win in their first game against Falkirk and this was followed by a 1-0 defeat by Kinross. A 1-1 draw with the hosts (scorer Colin Wilkie) and a 2-0 win against a mixed team (scorers Mamun Hossein and Kevin Ancell) gave Harris  third place in the tournament (match report

Travelling to Glenrothes with just eleven players and fielding four schoolboys Harris came under early pressure. Despite looking dangerous on the counter-attack Harris found themselves four behind at half-time. A more attacking approach in the second half produced two early goals both scored by Ferg Wilson before Carnegie scored twice to regain their four goal advantage. With ten minutes to go a double from Greg Whittet got Harris back into the game. Wanderers started best in the second half and went 2-1 ahead. Greg got his second midway through the second half to make it 2-2 before four goals in 5 minutes  changed the score to 5-3 Wanderers with Greg getting the third goal for Harris to complete his hat-trick. Both teams scored again before the end of the game to make the final score 6-4 to Wanderers.
