National League Indoor Hockey 2019-20

For the 20919-20 season SH will be adopting the new FIH indoor rules
4 x 10 minutes
1 minute between quarters 1-2 and 3-4
3 minutes at half time.

Other FIH Rule Changes

·         Teams no longer change benches at half time

·         A defending Player at a Penalty Corner who breaks the line early ( or is nominated after the keeper breaks early) , is sent to stand in line with the edge of the opposition D, until the corner is played.

·         Any defending player at a Penalty Corner who chooses not to stand behind the line to defend the Penalty Corner must stand in line with the edge of the opposition D, until the corner is played.

·         An attacking player who breaks the line early or if the pusher feints at playing the ball is sent by the umpire to stand in line with the edge of the opposition D, until the corner is played.

·         A Personal Penalty may be awarded for the Captain for too many players on the pitch. The awarding of a penalty corner for this, or an incorrect substitution remains in place.

·         Free hits within 3 metres of the D, the rule is now the same as outdoor.

·         No Kicking Backs.

New Rule- Penalty Corner
August 2019

  • Teams will only have the option of playing a goalkeeper or 11 outfield players, no more goalkeeping privileges for the kicking back.

  • Defensive free hits given inside the circle will now be able to be taken from anywhere inside the circle. You will still have the option to take it up to the 16 but that will still have to be in line with the offence.

  • Free hits within 5 metres of the D - all players must now be 5 metres from the ball when the hit is taken even if they are a defender in the D. If the hit is taken immediately thus not giving defenders time to retreat, then defenders within 5 metres may still shadow inside the D as they do now.

  • Completing short corners - the rule that a short corner after the end of the half was over if the ball went outside the D a second time has been deleted.

The club were at Westfest again this year along with other sports clubs in the West End Community Sports Hub. Despite a poor forecast and early rain it turned out to be a fine afternoon with a lot of warm sunny weather. This year there was no inflatable pitch available but club coaches and players combined to give youngsters at Westfest an introduction to hockey and let parents know about the hockey club in their local area.
