July 2018

Harris 3rd Team Win Indoor League
Theyoung Harris 3rd team won the Midland 3rd Division indoor league with 4 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat in their 7 league games. Top scoreres were Alfie Ackerley 7, Ewan Muirhead 6, Brodie Thompson 4 and Fraser Allan 3.

Sunday 24th June 2018 

Our two U10 teams Hawks and Harriers started at 10 30 and put in great performances on a very hot day, The U12s played four games and after losing the first game 2-0 to Carnegie Lionsthey won their other three games. 1-0 against GM, 2-0 against Carnegie Tigers and 3-0 agianst Kinross. Three players  got on to the scoresheet for the U12s for the first time, Cameron Gellatly, Cameron Allan and Euan WIlson. 

The U14 team had four wins out of four. In the first game Fraser Allan (3), Alfie Ackerley and Ewan Muirhead scored in a 5-2 win against GM Dragons. In the second game Fraser Allan (3) Aiden Davidson, Alfie Ackerley and Ewan Muirhead scored in a 6-0 win against Carnegie Typhoons. Next was a  6-0 win against KInross with Fraser Allan (3) Aiden Davidson (2) and Ewan Muirhead getting the goals. The last game was a 2-0 win against GM Athill with Fraser getting both goals.

Great Win for Harris Academy in National Final

Harris Academy U18s 1- 0  Beaconhurst U18s
Final of Aspire Cup plate 
Friday 16th March 2018 at National Hockey Centre, Glasgow

Against an older and bigger Beaconhusrt team Harris settled well in the first half and came close from a short corner which Fraser Allan sent over the bar. The first half ended goalless but the start of the second half saw Harris take the lead from a short corner. Cammie Bell pushed out to Alfie Ackerley to stick stop. Fraser Allan took the ball round the 1st runner then the 2nd and placed the ball low to the left of the Beaconhurst keeper to open the scoring. Harris came close from another corner when the ball was switched back by Fraser to Cammie who swept wide of goal. Ross Dyer then came close after taking the ball from the half-way line to the top of the D and firing just wide of the far post. Harris captain Ben Graham picked up a rebound from a short corner and had his effort well saved by the Beaconhurst keeper. Ben Mackenzie also came close from open play but again it was good work from the Beaconhurst keeper who made a good double save.

Harris 4 - 2  Granite City

Saturday 27th January 2018 at Bells Sports Centre

Harris went behind to a penalty flick in the second minute but a minute later Sam Owen-Hughesequalised for Harris after driving down the right and beating the GC goalkeeper with a shot into the corner of the goal. Harris took the lead in the 13th minute when Steven Rae supplied the assist for Steven Moir  to score and two minutes later Harris went ahead 3-1 from a Craig Munro penalty flick into the roof of the net. Following a short corner in the 19th minute Niall Mackay picked up the rebound and put Harris 4-1 ahead. Granite City responded quickly and scored just before half time.
Both teams had  chances from open play and short corners before the end of the game but there was no further scoring.

Harris 5- 5 Kelburne II

Saturday 27th January 2018 at Bells Sports Centre
Harris opened the scoring in the second minute. when Sam Owen-Hughes picked up the ball in the middle and sent a long pass to Steven Rae at the top of the circle to deflect into the net and open the scoring. A similar second goal for Steven Rae in the 9th minute, this time from a Pete Black pass, gave Harris a two goal lead. Harris then conceded two goals in the last five minutes of the first half. both from square passes into the D,  Harris went behind two minutes into the second half and in the 27th minute Kelburne made it 4-2. In the 30th minute Sam Owen-Hughes got Harris back into the game when he scored from a Chris Wylie pass and a minute later Harris were level from a Pete Black short corner. Kelburne missed two short corners and Harris one corner before Kelburne took the lead with three minutes to go. Harris pressed for an equaliser and won a short corner at the end of the gmae. Craig Munro scored from the overtime corner to give Harris a share of the points. 

Harris 2- 3 Perthshire

Saturday 27th January 2018 at Bells Sports Centre

In the 4th minute Harris missed from the only short corner of the first half. The only goal of the the first half came for Perthshire in the 13th minute when they scored with a shot from the left hand corner. In the first minute of the second half Perthshire went further ahead but Harris responded a minute later with a Sam Owen Hughes goal to make it 2-1. Harris missed short corners in the 24th and 25th minute and Perthshire from one in the 26th minute. With three minutes to go Harris missed from another short corner and shortly afterwards Perthshire went 3-1 ahead. Steven Moir scored for Harris a minute from time from a Steven Rae assist and Harris pressed for an equaliser. However Perthshire, who had earlier secured the league D3 title, held firm to take all three points.

January 2018

Midland Indoor Youth Tournament
Sunday 7th January 2018 at DISC
It was back to action at DISC for our U10, U12 and U14 teams in the indoor tournament at DISC.

The U12 team played three games, winning 2-1 against both Kinross and Perth and losing 2-1 to GM. Goalscorers for Harris were Murdo Kiddie (3),  Aiden Davidson and Ewan Muirhead.

Two teams competed in the U14 section. Harris Hawks won all three games beating Stirling Wanderers 2-1 and two different Perth teams 4-0 and 11-2. Goalscorers for the Hawks wereAlfie Ackerley (7), Fraser Allan (6) and one each for Ben MackenzieMatthew LittleAiden Davidson and Brodie Thompson.  The Harris Harriers U14 team had just the two games beating GM 2-0 and drawing 0-0 with Stirling Wanderers. Nicholas Auld scored both goals for the Harriers.

In the U10 event Harris fielded two teams.The Hawks had a successful day with Elsa Snowden(5), Bethan Thompson (2) and Isla Kennedy and Jack Tasker with one each getting the goals. 
The Harriers were also amongst the goals in their four games with Logyn Davidson (7) andMolly Muirhead (4) their main goascorers.

S1-S3 Active Schools Indoor Finals Feb 2018

Dundee Active Schools S1-S3 Indoor Final
Thursday 22nd February 2018 at DouglasSports Centre

Harris regained the S1-S3 indoor trophy with two 3-1 wins. In the first game against Braeview a Fraser Allan hat-trick secured a win for Harris. This was followed by a 3-1 win against Grove, Alfie Ackerley scored twice and provided the assist for Fraser Allan to get the other goal.

Harris 4 - 3  Grove Menzieshill III

Saturday 9th December 2017 at Bells Sports Centre

Harris got off to a good start when Alfie Ackerley opened the scoring in the 3rd minute from a Grant Mcinroy cross. GM equalised a minute later and in the 7th minute Harris missed a chance to go ahead when Greg Whittet had his penalty flick saved. GM then went ahead in the 13th minute from a short corner and there was no further scoring before half-time. 
Harris started well in the second half and Craig Munro's shot in the 21st minute was saved andGreg Whittet put in the rebound to level the scores. A minute later Greg Whittet got his second from a short corner . In the 27th minute Harris stretched their lead to 4-2 from a Pete Blackshort corner. GM were back in the game when they scored in the 32nd minute but there were no further goals.

Harris 2- 5 Monarchs

Saturday 9th December 2017 at Bells Sports Centre
Harris opened the scoring in the seventh minute from a short corner when Pete Black switched the ball to Gav Martin to flick in. Harris conceded a short corner in the 10th minute which Monarchs converted to equalise. A penalty flick from Gav Martin in the 15th minute put Harris ahead at half-time.
Monarchs had two short corners in the the first two minutes of the second half and scored from the second to level the scores. In the 25th minute Greg Whittet hit the crossbar from a short corner for Harris. Ally Blair saved a penalty flick in the 33rd minute and shortly after Gav Martin hit the post from an acute angle. From the clearance Monarchs moved upfield and took the lead with six minutes left. Harris pressed to equalise but Monarchs settled the game with two goals in the last four minutes.

Harris 13- 5 Granite City

Saturday 9th December 2017 at Bells Sports Centre

Granite City took the lead after three minutes but two minutes later Steven Moirequalised for Harris and in the 7th minute Gav Martin gave Harris a 2-1 lead. In the 10th minute Harris extended their lead when Alfie Ackerley won a penalty which was converted by Gav MartinGreg Whittet made it 4-1 in the 14th minute before GC scored to get back to 4-2. Two goals in the last three minutes of the the first half from Grant Mcinroy and Gav Martin gave Harris a 6-2 lead at half-time.
In the second half GC quickly scored to make it 6-3 before Steven Rae scored for Harris to restore their four goal advantage. A Craig Munro short corner in the 26th minute and a Gav Martin goal in the 31st minute gave Harris a 9-3 lead. Two goals for Greg Whittetin the 31st and 34th minutes were separated by two from GC and with five minute left Harris were leading 11-5. They still had time for another couple of goals from a CraigMunro penalty flick and a fourth goal for Greg Whittet.

Harris III 1- 1 Perthshire II

Sunday 10th December 2017 at Douglas Sports Centre

In the first game of the Midlands Indoor 3rd Division Harris opened with a draw against Perthshire 2s who won the league last year. Ben Graham scored for Harris in the first half and Perthshire equalised in the second half. Harris had chances to win the game but Perth defended well to keep the scores level. 

October 2017

Saturday 29th October 2017 at Woodmill HS Dunfermline
 
The U12 team were in action first of all playing four games at sunny but cold Woodmill HS. All the games were closely contested and the Hawks finished with a win a loss and two draws. Scorers for the U12 team were Ewan Muirhead (3), Ismail Hussain (2) and Matthew Little.
The U14 team played three longer games in their session drawing aginst the two Perthshire teams 2-2 and 0-0  and winning against Grove Menzieshill 3-1. Scorers for the U14 team were Alfie Ackerley (3) and Ben Mackenzie (2).

Sept 2017

Scottish Under 18 Inter District Tournament
National Hockey Centre, Glasgow, 23rd and 24th September 2017
Three players from Harris Academy FP Hockey Club have been selected to play for MidlandUnder 18s in the Scottish Under 18 inter district tournament in Glasgow this weekend. Good luck to Ross McNicoll, Gregor Trickett and Ben Graham.

Harris 4 - 4  AGSFP

Saturday 2nd December 2017 at Bells Sports Centre

Grant Mcinroy and Alfie Ackerley scored for Harris as they turned round at half-time losing 3-2. After going behind 4-2 Grant Mcinroy completed his hat-trick to gain Harris a share of the points. Harris missed from an overtime short corner which would have secured a win in their first game.

Harris 12 - 2  Stepps

Harris led 4-2 at half-time against Stepps who played with six outfield players. The Harris goas were scored by Grant Mcinroy (2), Steven Moir and Gav Martin
Harris pressed forward in the second half and scored eight more goals though Gav Martin (3),Pete Black (2), and Chris WylieAlfie Ackerley and Steven Moir with one each.

A hat-trick from Fraser Allan, two from Dylan Ackerley and one each for Ross Dyer andJames Lothian saw Harris finish off the first half of the outdoor league programme with three points.

Thursday 30th November 2017 at Douglas Sports Centre
Pete Fowlie (5), Chris Wylie (2) and Euan Richardson and Euan Donohue one each scored the goals to give Harris a comfortable win in their indoor league game.

Harris Academy FP Ladies Hockey Club
After nearly 30 years, Harris Academy FP Ladies Hockey Club is set to make a comeback. On Tuesday 5th September 20 plus players met at Riverside to discuss future plans for a team with coach Gordon Grewar. The first training session will take place on Tuesday 12th September at the Dundee University all-weather pitch at Riverside from 8pm to 9pm. All going well it's planned to organise some friendly games during season 2017-18 with the possibility of entering Midlands League 2 during season 2018-19.

Harris II  2-1 Wanderers IV
Saturday 2nd September 2017 at DISC
The Midlands season restarted for Harris with the 2s playing Wanderers 4s at DISC. Wanderers took an early lead and in a fairly even first half there were no further goals. Harris started the second half well and tested Lewis Beer in the Wanderers goal with several good shots. The equaliser came from a close range effort by Dave Somerville and ten minutes from time Pete Black sealed the points for Harris with a well taken penalty flick.

July 2018

Coaching Course Success
Well done to Steven Moir, Ben Graham, Ross McNicoll, Dylan Ackerley and Bella Ackerley for successfully completing the level 1 coaching course at Riverside at the end of June.

Harris Academy S1-S3 Win District Tournament
A great performance from the Harris S1-S3 team at DISC saw them win all four games in the round robin tournament. 

In the first game they had a 6-1 win against Crieff and followed this by beating Grove 3-0. 
In their third game they had a 12-1 win against Monifieth and finished the tournament by beating Websters HS 5-0. Goalscorers for Harris were Fraser Allan (9), Cammie Bell (7) Alfie Ackerley (4)  and Robbie Somerville (3) with Ewan Muirhead, Jay Smith and Eli Ross getting one each.

Saturday 19th May 2018 at DISC

Goals from Dave Somerville and Ross Dyer gave Harris two goal lead at half time. A powerful drive into the top of the net from Ross Dyer gave Harris a three goal lead and secured the three points.

Saturday 21st April 2018 at Dawson Park
Harris held a 6-2 lead at half time with Ross Dyer getting a hat-trick, James Lothian two and one for Pete Fowlie.Playing downhill at Dawson in the second half Harris continued to dominate and further goals from James Lothian (3) and Ewan Muirhead (2) made the final score 11-2 to Harris.

Midland Outdoor Youth Tournament
Sunday 29th April 2018 atWoodmill HS Dunfermline
In the morning session our U10s Drew 0-0 with Carnegie and 2-2 with Kinross. There were wins against Perthshire A 2-1 and Wanderers B  4-2 and osses to Carnegie A  3-1 and Wanderers A 5-1. Our young team of Rosie Lothian, Madeleine Lothian, Jack Tasker and Logyn Davidson  played really well in their six games.
The U12 team won their 3 games beating Kinross A 3-0, Carnegie B 2-0 and Kinross B 8-0. Special mention to 8 year old Logyn Davidson who scored 4 goals in the last game.

Aspire Cup March 2018

Inverness/Kingussie U18s 1- 2  Harris Academy U18s
Semi-Final of Aspire Cup plate 
Friday 9th March 2018 at Bught Park, Inverness

After a number of postponements due to poor weather the semi-final game finally went ahead in bright sunshine at Bught Park. The first half started with the teams looking evenly matched.  It was Inverness/Kingussie who took the lead in the first half from a reverse hit shot which looped high over Ross in goal and the ball was deflected into the goal at the far post. The home team had a good spell after this and came close to extending their lead.
Harris started the 2nd half brightly pressing further upfield. Five minutes into the second half Harris were awarded a penalty flick when the ball was stopped by a defender's foot on the line. Fraser Allan took the penalty and his strong flick was deflected high into the net by the home keeper as he made a great attempt to keep it out. Harris then had a good spell and started to pass the ball around better and with more confidence and the home keeper made several good saves during this spell. As a shoot out started to look likely James Lothian drove strongly down the right hand side and played a ball across goal for Alfie Ackerley to deflect in at the near post and take Harris into the final in Glasgow next Friday.

Harris 4 - 5  AGSFP

AGSFP opened the scoring and Gav Martin equalised for Harris . AGSFP took the lead just before half time but Pete Black equalised from a short corner at the end of the half.
Three minutes into the second half AGSFP went ahead 3-2 but Greg Whittet equalised for Harris two minutes later. Almost immediately AGSFP made it 4-3 and a goal in the 33rd minute gave them a 5-3 lead. Harris missed a corner in the 14th minute and continued to press to get back into the game. With a minute to go Greg Whittet scored from a short corner.

Harris 3- 2 Stepps

Defences were on top for most of the first half and the only goal during this time came for Harris when Gav Martin scored from a Greg Whittet assist. In the second half both teams missed two short corners each before Grant McInroy scored in the 31st minute to give Harris a two goal lead. Harris seemed to have sealed victory when Greg Whittet extended the Harris lead to three. However almost immediately Stepps scored in the 35th minute. A short corner miss for Harris in the 38th minute was followed by a missed penalty in the 39th minute. Stepps pressing high then won a corner scored which they converted in overtime.

Harris III 6- 1 Wanderers VI

Sunday 14th January 2018 at DouglasSports Centre

Harris opened the scoring in the fifth minute from an Alfie Ackerley short corner. Alfie Ackerleyincreased the Harris lead with his second goal in the ninth minute from a Robbie Somerville assist. Two minutes before half time Harris went three ahead when Brodie Thompson scored from an Alfie assist. Alfie Ackerley completed his hat-trick nine minutes into the second half to make it 4-0 but a minute later Wanderers reduced the lead to three. A Pete Fowlie goal three minutes from time and a Ewan Muirhead short corner a minute from time completed the scoring.

Harris opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Brodie Thompson scored from an Alfie Ackerley assist. Monarchs equalised a minute later. In the 11th minute a good move from Harris started with Alfie Ackerley passing to Ewan Muirhead who fed the ball to Brodie Thompson to grab his second of the game.A short corner goal from Alfie Ackerley three minutes into the second half gave Harris a 3-1 lead and two minutes later Pete Fowlie made it 4-1. In the last two minutes of the game Monarchs scored twice with their third goal going in just as the game ended.

Monarchs opened the scoring after four minutes but Harris equalised seven minutes later whenGav Martin scored from a Fraser Allan assist. In the final five minutes of the first half Harris lost four goals to trail 5-1 at half-time.
Three minutes into the second half Gav Martin made it 5-2 but any chance of a comeback was halted by two further goals for Monarchs. Alfie Ackerley pulled back a goal for Harris to make it 7-3 but Monarchs replied shortly after. Fraser Allan netted a corner for Harris to make the final score 8-4

November 2017

Harris 4 - 4  Carnegie

Thursday 9th November 2017 at Douglas Sports Centre

Harris started their game against Carnegie with 13 year olds Alfie Ackerley and Fraser Allan up front. Carnegie led 2-0 ahead at half-time. Harris started the second half brightly and Grant McInroy scored for Harris six minutes into the second half. However, a minute later Carnegie regained their two goal lead. From a short corner nine minutes into the second half Pete Black switched to Gav Martin to deflect home to make it 3-2. A minute later and the scores were level when Gav Martin spun wide of the keeper to score from a Pete Black assist. Carnegie went ahead 4-3 with four minutes to go but with a minute of the game left Gav Martin completed his hat-trick from another Pete Black assist to tie the scores at 4-4.

October 2017

Falkirk 4 - 2  Harris

Saturday 7th October 2017 at Grangemouth HS
 
Falkirk opened the scoring after fifteen minutes from a deflection into the corner of the goal. Ten minutes later Falkirk went two ahead when Harris failed to clear a flick into the D. Harris replied three minutes later when Greg Whittet scored from a penalty flick. Four minutes later the sides were level after Pete Black sent the ball through to Greg Whittet and from just inside the Falkirk half Greg ran through, rounded the keeper and hit the ball into the goal. Just before half-time Harris went a player down when Duncan in goal was green carded.  Harris then lost a goal at the start of the second half before getting back to eleven men. Harris twice came close to equalising before losing three players in quick succession for tackles, all of which seemed fair to onlookers. While down to eight players Harris lost a fourth goal in the 55th minute. There were chances for both sides before the end of the game but no further scoring.

In a closely contested game Merchiston took a 1-0 lead in the first half. Harris improved second half and equalised through Gregor Trickett before Merchiston regained the lead. Harris pressed for an equaliser and came close on several occasions with one outstanding save from the Merchiston keeper when he dived full length to save a shot which looked to be going into the corner of the goal.

The U12s were on at 12 00 and won five out of five games, Blairgowrie 8-0, Kinross 4-1, Carnegie Typhoons 3-2, Carnegie Tornados 4-2 and Grove Menzieshill 5-2. Goalscorers were Ben Mackenzie 7, Aiden Davidson 6, Ewan Muirhead 5, Nicholas Auld 3, Matthew Allen 2 and Matthew Ogg 1.

The U14s were on at 14 00 and won four out of four games, Grove Menzieshill Dragons 6-0, Blairgowrie 3-0, Perthshire B 2-1 and Grove Menzieshill 4-1. Goalscorers were Ben Mackenzie 6, Aiden Davidson 5, Alfie Ackerley 2 and Ewan Muirhead 2. A few tired players tonight. With some U14 players unavailable we had to move up U12s to take their place, but they all did well.

August 2017

With both pitches at Dalnacraig available the U10 and U12 games were played at the same time. The U10 s again fielded two sides the Hawks and the Harriers and our young players played some great hockey in all their games.
The U12 team played seven games, winning five (Carnegie 2-0, Wanderers 2-0,Stirling 7-0, Grove Menzieshill A 2-1 and a mixed team 4-2) and drawing two (Grove Menzieshill B 1-1 and Kinross 2-2) Scorers for the U12 team were Ewan Muirhead (7), Ismail Hussain (5), Matthew Little (5) Nicholas Auld (2) and Matthew Allen (1)
The U14 team had two wins (Grove Menzieshill A 3-0 and Grove Menzieshill B 4-0) and two defeats (Dundee Wanderers 1-2 and Carnegie 1-3). Scorers for the U14s were Fraser Allan (4), Alfie Ackerley (3) and Ewan Muirhead and Aiden Davidson one each.
