Harris Hawks Win School to Club Link Award
At the Dundee Active Schools Volunteer Awards Night 2017 held at the Apex Hotel on Saturday 10th June, Harris Hawks were joint winners of the School to Club Link award sponsored by Dundee Football Club.
 
This award is a result of all the hard work put in by our volunteer coaches at Wednesday training sessions held at Riverside and Harris Academy as well as the taster sessions and after school clubs running in our linked primary schools.

The Harris Hawks Awards Evening was held at Harris Academy  on Wednesday 21st June. Andy Thompson's quiz got the evening off to a great start and after a motivational talk form Barry Millar HT at Harris Academy the Hawks youth awards were presented by Barry.
 
After the team awards individual awards were presented to the players below.

The Neil Martin trophy for most improved player was sponsored by the former Harris 1st team captain and awarded for the first time on Wednesday.

This season the Midlands 2nd Division was won by Harris Academy FP 3rd team. The Harris Hawks  players form the core of this team and Jay Smith from the under 14 team accepted the trophy from Bill Garland Midlands Competitions convener

Goals from Anthony Mudie and Niall Mackay gave Harris a 2-1 win at Dawson Park

Riverside Saunday 14th May 2017 
Harris opened the scoring through Anthony Mudie before GM5 fought back to take a 2-1 half-time lead. A goal early in the second half from Alfie Ackerley levelled the scores.GM then regained their lead before DuncanMcNicoll made it 3-3. GM5 went 4-3 ahead and with time running out Fraser Allan scored with a reverse hit shot to make the final score 4-4


Midland Under 14 Inter District Tournament
Saturday 13th May
Glasgow National Hockey Centre
Fraser Allan played for the U14 Midlands team which took second place at the inter district tournament held at Glasgow National Hockey Centre on Saturday 13th May. After a 6-0 defeat from tournament winners East the Midlands team recorded wins over West 3-2 , Highland 6-0 and North 2-0

Douglas Sports Centre Tues 14th February 2017
The finals of the Dundee schools indoor tournament took place in Douglas Sports Centre on Tuesday 14th February. In the semi-final  Harris played Monifieth and won 6-3 to go through to the final against Grove. A great team performance from Harris secured the gold medals with a 3-0 win. Team:- Ross Dyer, Jack Renton, Fraser Allan, Alfie Ackerley, Cameron Bell, Lucas Mahoney and Ewan McNeish.

School Indoor Hockey Tournament
Douglas Sports Centre Tues 14th February 2017
The finals of the Dundee schools indoor plate tournament took place at Braeview  Academy on Tuesday 21st February. After wins against Montrose, Monifeith and Grove,  the Harris team lost narrowly to Braeview who wen on to take gold medal position with Harris taking silver. Team :- Jay Smith, Robbie Somerville, Eli Ross, Matthew Little, Ben Mackenzie and Ismail Hussain. Well done to Ismail for scoring his first hat-trick in the game against Monifieth.

After going behind 7-1 Harris staged a great fightback to get to 7- 5 and give league leaders Wanderers a close game. Goalscorers for Harris were Gav Martin (3) and Jack Dyer (2). Harris only had 6 players for the game and Jack played throughout despite fracturing a finger in the first five minutes of the game.

After a slow start goals were scored at regular intervals. At one point Harris were 14-6 ahead before Kelburne staged a late fightback. Goalscorers for Harris were, Greg Whittet (6), Gav Martin (3), Jack Dyer (3), Pete Black and Craig Munro.

The final game for Harris started at 4.35 pm (first game 9.15am) and at the end of a long day the Harris team performed better than the scoreline would suggest. Jack Dyer scored for Harris.

After two drawn games, Harris got their first league win. First half goals from Dylan and Alfie Ackerley put them two ahead. Wanderers pulled a goal back in the second half.

Harris fought back from 4-1 down and then 7-4 down to level at 8-8. The game finished with Harris missing an overtime corner. Harris scorers, Euan Simpson (3), Gav Martin (2), Steven Rae, Jack Dyer and Grant Robertson.

In their 3rd match of the day Harris got off to a bad start and didn't get back into the gmae. Harris scorers, Gav Martin (3), Euan SImpson, Ben Graham and Grant Robertson.

Harris looked like they had taken a decisive 5-1 lead with goals from Anthony Mudie (3) and Alfie Ackerley (2). Monarchs gradually worked their way back into the game to get a share of the points.

Harriswere 1-0 ahead at half-time though a Duncan McNicoll goal. Harris defended well in the 2nd half and were unlucky to lose all three points. 

Midlands U14 Indoor Youth Tournament
Lynch Centre
Sunday 27th November 2016
Monarchs hosted the first indoor tournament of the season at the Lynch Centre. The Harris team took a bit of time to adjust to the indoor game but showed gradual improvement throughout their games. In attack Alfie Ackerley and Ewan Muirhead combined well and scored lots of goals. They were supported well in the middle of the pitch by Ewan McNeish and James Lothian while Ross Dyer, Robbie Somerville, Jay Smith and Brodie Thompson formed a solid defence. The team ended with three wins and three defeats from their six games. To see some of the action check out the Harris twitter account.

Midlands Youth Tournament
Sunday 25th June 2017 at Riverside
Harris Hawks hosted the Midlands outdoor tournament held at Riverside on Sunday 25th June. The games started with the U10s from 10 30 to 12 00. Harris entered two teams in this age group showing their strength in depth at this level.  All the games were umpired by Hawks U12 and U14 players. 
  

The U12 games were from 1215 to 1345 and special mention in this age group for Aiden Davidson  who top-scored with 10 goals and to Cameron Allan playing in his first tournament. The U12s played 6, won 4 , drew 1 and lost 1 game. Other scorers were Matthew Little (6), Ewan Muirhead (3), Matthew Ogg (2), Ben Mackenzie (2) and Nicholas Auld (1). Meantime the refreshments tent was busy selling tea/coffee, soft drinks, burgers and cakes and alongside the tombola was attracting plenty of interest.
        
 

The U14s took over from 1400 to 1530 and started with a win against Wanderers and a draw with GM. A narrow defeat from Stirling Wanderers was followed by a win against Madras.Jack Dyer, Duncan McNicoll and Dylan Ackerley did great work umpiring both the 12s and 14s games.

The tournament was a great success with teams from Wanderers, GM, Monarchs, Kinross, Carnegie, Madras and Stirling Wanderers enjoying a good day out at sunny Riverside.

Dalnacraig Friday 26th May 2017
In their penultimate league game of the season Harris 2s continued their fine recent run with a 7-0 win over Monarchs 2s. A Ross Dyer hat-trick and two from Alfie Ackerley helped Harris on their way to an away win.

Midlands Youth Tournament
DISC Sunday 28th May 2017
The latest Midlands tournament was hosted by GM at DISC. Despite it being a holiday weekend Harris were able to field two teams at U10 level and one each in the U12 and U14 
age groups. 
In the U10 games Harris Hawks and Harris Harriers both played well in their games.Top scorers were Eden Reid, Matthew Ogg, Luke Soutar and Felix Flynn. Special mention to Isla Kennedy and Maddy Lothian who played so well in their first tournament.
The Hawks U12s had a successful day winning five and drawing one of their six games. Wins over Madras 4-1, Stirling Wanderers 6-0, Kinross 2-1 and JHA Strikers 2-1 were followed by a 4-4 draw against JHA Titans  and then a 6-3 win against Grove Menzieshill. Ewan Muirhead (10), Ben Mackenzie (6) and Matthew Little (3) were top scorers while Matthew Ogg, 9 this month, scored twice in his first games in this age group.
The Hawks U14 team also had a successful day winning all four of their games. A 3-1 win against Kinross this was followed by wins against Grove Menzieshill (3-0), Dunfermline Carnegie (6-0) and Stirling Wanderers (2-0).
Top scorers for Harris were Alfie Ackerley (7) and James Lothian (3).The next Midlands tournament will be hosted by Harris on Sunday 25th June at Riverside.

Dundee University 0- 8 Harris Academy FP
National League Division 2
Riverside Sat 1st April 2017 
Harris got off to a great start in this relegation battle at Riverside. Ferg Wilson in the 6th minute from a Greg Whittet assist and Greg Whittet from a short corner two minutes later gave Harris a two goal lead. A vital penalty save from Ally Blair in the 16th minute kept Harris two in front. Euan Donohue scored from close range after Greg Whittet beat two defenders on a run into the D from the left. Another goal just before half-time from Ferg Wilson gave Harris a comfortable four goal lead. Greg Whittet again provided the assist. 
Five minutes into the second half Ferg Wilson dispossessed the last University defender and beat the keeper to complete his hat-trick. In the 44th minute it was 6-0 when an Andrew Kernohan through ball was chased by Grant McInroy who slid in to deflect the ball past the keeper. A short corner in the 48th minute from Greg Whittet was flicked high into the roof of the net for 7-0 and the last goal of the game came fromFerg Wilson who got his fourth following a good passing movement involving Greg Whittet and Andrew Kernohan.

DISC Sat 1st April 2017 
GM 4s took the lead but Harris equalised when Jay Smith crossed from the right for Anthony Mudie to net from close range.The second half saw Harris take the lead when Fraser Allan drove down the right and from a tight angle he clipped the ball over the advancing home keeper into the net. Pete Fowlie scored with an angled drive over the keeper, this time from the left hand side. After a series of recent encouraging performances Harris deservedly took full points from the game.

Harris Hawks Top School U15 League
Riverside Thursday 30th March 2017 
The school U15 team made it 5 wins out of 5 in the second round of outdoor games at Riverside. They beat both their nearest rivals playing some excellent hockey. A 2-0 win against Grove was followed by a 4-1 win against Monifieth with Lucas Mahoney grabbing a hat-trick. There is one more round of games left to play after the Easter break.

Harris entered two U10 teams for the tournament and it was a busy day for both teams with 7 games each.  Playing for the U10 teams were:-Bethan Thompson, Elsa Snowden, Matthew Ogg, Felix Flynn, Luke Soutar, Eden Reid, Jack Tasker, Matthew McGouldrick, James Elgie and Logyn Davidson.

The U12 teamwon all five of their matches, 4-0 (Grove Dragons), 3-0 (Grove Menzieshill) 3-1 (Carnegie Typhoons), 6-0 (Carnegie Tornadoes) and 7-3 (Kinross). Scorers were Ben Mackenzie (9) Ewan Muirhead (5) , Matthew Little (3), Aidan Davidson (2), Fraser Allan (2), Luke Soutar (1) and Ismail Hussain (1). The other members of the team were Rory Little, Kyle Wilson and Nicholas Auld.

The U14 teamlost their first game to Carnegie 1-0 and then won their other three games, 4-0 (Blairgowrie)

4-0 (Wanderers). Scorers were Fraser Allan (7), Ewan Muirhead (4) Ewan McNeish (1) and Jay Smith (1). The other members of the Harris team were :- Eden West (GK), Ross Dyer, Robbie Somerville and Brodie Thompson.

The U10 team lost their their first and last games1-0 but in between had two draws with JHA and Blairgowrie and three wins against Madras, Carnegie and Kinross. Scorers for Harris were Matthew Ogg (5), Eden Reid (5), Luke Soutar (3) and Jack Tasker (1). Bethan Thompson, Elsa Snowden and Felix Flynn were the other members of the Harris team.

The U12 team only had three games and won all of their matches. The U14 team won all four of their games. An early Greg Whittet goal was cancelled out quickly by Monarchs who went on to take a 3-1 half-time lead playing with 6 outfield players. Goals from Jack Dyer and Euan Simpson at the start of the second half quickly put Harris on level terms and further goals from Euan Simpson (2) and Greg Whittet (2) put Harris 7-3 ahead with four minutes to play. Monarchs scored twice before the end to make the final score 7-5.

Harris 21 - 4 Stepps

In their second game of the season Harris recorded their highest score in an indoor tournament beating Stepps 21-4. Gavin Martin (7), Greg Whittet (5), Jack Dyer (4), Euan Simpson (2), Sam Owen-Hughes (2) and Ben Graham (1) scored the Harris goals.

Harris opened the National League indoor season poorly, going down to AGSFP. Harris goalscorers were Gavin Martin (3), Sam Owen Hughes, Euan Simpson and Iain Mitchell.

Dundee University II 2-1 Harris II

Riverside Sat 3rd December 2016
In their final game before the winter break the Harris 2nd team lost narrowly the University 2nd team. Harris took the lead after Fraser Allan played the ball out to Ross Dyer and his cross was swept in by Dylan Ackerley. Two goals in the first six minutes of the second half put the students ahead and although both teams had chances there was no further scoring.

Midland Indoor Youth Tournament
Bells Sports Centre Sunday 4th December 2016
After the U14 tournament last weekend the tournament at Bells Sports Centre gave the U10 and U12 teams the chance to play some indoor hockey. The U12 team played five games, winning three , drawing one and losing one. The Harris squad for the tournament was:- Alfie Ackerley, Luke Soutar, Ewan Muirhead, Nicholas Auld, Matthew Little, Rory Little, Matthew Allen, Kyle Wilson and Ismael Hussain.
The U10 team played six games, winning two , losing two and drawing two. The Harris U10 squad was:- Bethan Thompson, Jack Tasker, Luke Soutar, Sahil Shahbaz and Matthew Ogg.

Youth Tournament 
Sunday 30th October 2016
Woodmill HS, Dunfermline


It was an early start for the U10 team with the first game in Dunfermline starting at 10 15 am.  Harris with a relatively young team won three of their games and continued to show improvement in all aspects of their play. Harris team:- Luke Soutar, Matthew Ogg, Bethan Thompson, Rebecca Rawlins and Annie McRury.

The U12 team had a 12 pm start and only one of the team forgot to put their clocks back. After losing their first game the U12s won their next six games playing some great hockey. Harris team:- Luke Soutar, Ewan McNeish, Ismael Hussain, Matthew Little, Ben Mackenzie and Ewan Muirhead.

Like the U12s the U14 team lost their first game but put in great performances to win their next three games. In the last game they went down by a single goal to a combined Carnegie team. Harris team:- Ross Dyer, Robbie Somerville, Jay Smith, Brodie Thompson, James Lothian,  Alfie Ackerley, Ewan Muirhead and Ismael Hussain.
