Match Report - 29 Sep 2012, Harris Academy FP Hockey Club 1st Team Outdoor beat Greenock
After a weekend off Harris made the long trip to Largs to face Greenock looking to pick up the first three points of the season. Pete Black taking advantage of the long journey to give the two seater sports car a nice runabout. Greenock came close to promotion last year , only just missing out in the final set of games so we knew we were going to get a tough test.
Harris started the game poorly misplacing passes which eventually saw them concede a short corner, Pete blacks aerial clearance finding Ferg Wilsons shinpad ! Ally made the initial save from the corner but Greenock flooded the D and scored from the rebound and Harris found themselves behind in the first 2 minutes. However this sparked the team into life and the passing improved and we evened things up after a good run from Moir down the right followed by a good hit across the D found Albert at the back post leaving him with an open goal . Makes up for the open goal miss last week then ! So not even five minutes on the clock and the score was tied at 1-1. After scoring Harris looked to build pressure but again some misplaced passes resulted in a midfield battle for the next while. Harris won a short corner with less than a minute to go until the end of the half. A good push and a stop enabled Albert to find the bottom corner of the goal for his second of the game. The whistle blew for the end of the half shortly after giving Harris confidence going into the second half.
After the half time team talk Harris came out playing much better hockey . Fluent passing allowed us to build pressure on Greenock and we won two short corners . Again two good pushes and stops however the despite two goals being scored from the corners the only compliment this reporter can give to Albert is "good power" . A goal is a goal though and it allowed Harris to play more freely and the confidence was evident. So 4-1 up , playing with confidence, ten minutes to go , and Ferg Wilson (DOTD) takes offence to a challenge made on him , directing an insult towards the veteran Greenock player. Harris were forced to drop back for the remaining ten minutes but played it well by keeping the ball and playing the easy passes.
Overall a good 4-1 victory away from home against a tricky team. The victory making the two and a half hour journey seem worth it . A thank you must also go to Greenock for the after match hospitality. And congratulations to Albert again who picked up the man of the match award for his four goals.
Punishments for Ferg Wilson can be suggested on the Forum !!!
