Match Report - 07 Oct 2012, Harris Academy FP Hockey Club 1st Team Outdoor beat Stirling University
Harris travelled through to Stirling on a Beautiful Sunday afternoon to take on Stirling uni and were looking to make it a 6 point weekend. Pete Black was absent due to a very swollen (possibly broken) hand and the 2 seater was left in the garage for the weekend. Neil "snakehips" Martin made a welcome return, doing the team a huge favour after coming home early from his dancing competiton.
Not five minutes was on the clock before Neil Williams was forced off due to a hamstring injury and a quick reshuffle saw Finlay play out of his usual position at right back and snakehips filled in at centre back - also out of position ! A great effort form both lads though and doing the team a huge favour and playing very well out of position . Harris had a very poor first half and were lucky not to find themselves more than one goal down going in at half time. The goal coming from a short corner deflecting off of Gavins stick on the line. Stirling were allowed to build a lot of pressure thanks to the "whistle happy" umpire .
Some harsh words were said at half time and Harris knew they were lucky not to be losing by more than one goal but they maintained the belief that they could improve and still win the game but an early second half goal was needed.
An early 2nd half goal you say ? step up .... Cameron Conway. Not only was he suffering from a nose bleed due to being so far up the pitch but what a goal ! Cameron found the ball drop to him on the edge of the D and the capacity crowd was screaming at him to shoot and BOOM ... right into the defenders stick but it fell nicely for him again and BOOM right into the bottom corner to pull Harris level . Cameron was then found to be raking around in his kitbag only to find his famous pink cowboy hat. He put it on did a lap of honor whilst riding his hockey stick. The crowd went wild ! This gave Harris the belief to go on and win the game. A good pass from Gavin to Moir who then found Albert with a brilliant first time pass put Albert through one on one with the keeper. The Stirling keeper fouled Albert and a penalty was given . After Greg the pegs shambles form the first game Albert stepped up and slotted the ball into the corner of the goal. Shortly after Harris won a short corner and yet another well worked routine allowed Albert to pick his spot and put Harris 3-1 up . Albert now has 12 goals in 4 games - good effort ! Stirling battled to the end though but some good defending along with some top saves from the MANBEARPIG sealed the 3-1 victory.
Although not the best performance from a young Harris side the determination was obvious and to take a 3-1 victory after the first half was a great effort .
Stirling Uni provided some good after match hospitality serving up burger and chips. The delight in Greg and Allys faces when they discovered there was leftovers was obvious . They proceeded to polish off a further 5 burgers... each ! Not content with this they then stopped off at The Bridge of Allan chippy and had a large fish supper each ! SO much for the talk of a fitness session during the week. Although Ally has lost a considerable amount of pounds since last Saturday ... shame it was at the casino !
