Match Report - 17 Nov 2012, Harris Academy FP Hockey Club 2nd Team Outdoor beat Wanderers III
The final score does not truly reflect the goalmouth action and open play that was on display in this ML1 fixture played at Dalnacraig on Saturday. Wanderers were the sharper team in the early exchanges showing greater desire to get to the loose ball and as a result Steve McIlravey was pressed into action on a number of occassions to keep the twos in the game but as the half moved on the slightly understrength second string worked their way into the game and by the end of the half had tested W3s goal a couple of times from open play but were wasteful with their penalty corners. The second half saw Harris with the sun at their backs and also a greater spring in their step and as a result saw the Wanderers goal placed under pressure on several occassions but still with no end result. Roy Dowie and Craig Towns marshalled the twos rearguard and some further good work between the sticks from Stevie saw the twos stand firm. The deadlock was eventually broken after a sustained period of pressure when Toonsie crashed home from the edge of the D. Further backs to the wall play saw out the fixture and a valuable three points. Some performances to note were Callum Hughes and Sam Owen-Hughes who although playing against older and more experienced players more than held their own. Doug Lowdon also put in yet another tireless performance. Perhaps more poise in front of goal from the twos skipper would have seen this game over as a contest earlier - time to hang up the stick maybe!
