Match Report - 14 Sep 2013, Harris Academy FP Hockey Club 3rd Team Outdoor lost to Madras
"You'll win nothing with kids" - so the saying goes. Probably not in this case but the current crop of youths unleashed on the MHL yesterday showed that the club has a decent future. Harris fielded a relatively inexperienced and in places extremely youthful side at St Andrews but lost nothing in defeat to a well seasoned Madras outfit. The final scoreline, a 2 - 1 reverse, is a fair reflection on the game but the blooding of five under 16s is the real story of this game. In an end to end match both sides showed rustiness from a five month lay off and indeed all three goals conceded were due to mistakes made by defences. A mix up between Jossy and Andy T allowed Madras to open the scoring in an 'after you Claude' style and some poor distribution could have seen the home side further ahead at the break. The half time team talk seemed to do the trick and Harris began passing and as a result exposed the home defence on a number of occassions with Jack Dyer and Callum Ellis striking up a good partnership down the right wing. From one of many creative runs by young Dyer , linking up with Dylan Ackerley, Harris levelled through a 'powerful' Sooty drive from the top of the D!!! (well played Keeper). The game continued from end to end with Madras finishing the scoring after yet another break through the middle of the park .
Harris can take a lot of store from the introduction of so many young players in the same game and hopefully with the return of one or two senior players the season does not look too bleak. Thanks to Chris Wright for taking the whistle.
